When I'm not at a birth, I time travel.
I was at three birthdays yesterday, I missed the last one by 15 minutes! Thankfully I had an awesome back-up doula I had stay with my client that practices the same as me so I knew my clients were in excellent hands. So thankful for an excellent line-up I have created from relationship and excellence. So thankful my clients still received the same standard of care I give and had a solid advocate. I remained in contact over the phone that whole time as well and they were very pleased with the support they felt.
Three birthdays in 24 hours, that's a new record for me.

Supported a family for 36 hours in person, not hours I typically pull as it hurts my body. She really needed an advocate though for full informed consent consistently. I did go home between those 36 hours I was there in person. I'm no good if I cannot think clearly or get home safely. Leaving is controversial, but it shouldn't be. It's healthy for everyone involved. Staying is about me, resting is about my client.
Hard work, Mama is okay and baby came vaginally, something she fought hard for. I've never seen a woman push for 10 hours. She was determined to have her baby on her terms despite medical complications. Resilient isn't even a strong enough word for everything she went through. I'm thankful the Lord had me part of this story. There is so much to glean from here

And it's old.
We no longer care!
In fact, while we want sleep we will treasure those moments.
We will drink up every time they cry for our arms.
We will love two and see what's really going on and meet them where they are.
We will teach them about privacy when they are old enough.
We will treasure it all.
Stop speaking to mother's in this way. It's not funny, it's not cute and it's dishonoring the child they carry.

GREAT NEWS!!!! I CAN ACCEPT CARROT! I'm not set up*yet* though if you have carrot I'll work with you and figure it out along the way!
I'm on call. It will be any day, any time.
I set myself up for success to get to my client as quickly as possible . My clothes are laid out, bags are packed, espresso machine is ready, water bottle full, and my car is full of gas.
This is the waiting.
It's quiet and still with anticipation, but as we wait for spring eagerly and enjoy the wait until the flowers bloom or the end of summer when tomatoes are the best, it's still fulfilling.
Waiting doesn't have to procure impatiently. Waiting should be a fulfillment as what's anticipated is due to arrive.
In regards to birth and most things in life, when we wait in grace and in fulfillment what comes and lasts is filled with all the more joy and fond memories of what's come.
If it weren't for the waiting, many would not even pray. It goes against culture to be still and you have to question why when the most natural event on Earth, childbirth, takes place because of the waiting.
We can learn a lot about life through labor and delivery.
Waiting well is a form of art and faith.

Mother the Mother's!
Mother's deliver their babies, not Drs, l&d nurses, or midwives.
Mother's.
Everyone needs to stop taking away a mother's hard work and making it their own. It's minimizing mother's.
Everyone else attended and sure, maybe caught baby if Mom or Dad didn't.
Let's change our vocabulary because that gives mother's MORE autonomy.
Don't even get me started on women having the right to say no to "standard practice" like episiotomies without consent or the husband stitch being snuck in by doctors causing undue harm.
Medical professionals who do things without REAL consent are simply doing it all for their own ego to be the hero when most of the time one isn't even needed.
I'm not talking about real emergencies I'm talking about medically created emergencies.
As a doula- I'm here for the changes that may come when baby or mama tells us something isn't right. The real question is are the systems listening? They often don't believe Mom's when they say they feel pushy. I've witnessed it.
I trust birth.
I trust baby to tell us in the room when something needs to change.
I trust women's bodies to do as they were designed.
Intervention is there when needed, and that is important, but gravely overused because the forementioned above isn't trusted.
It's high time for change and it starts with women awknowledging informed consent when other women have been violated. That's the very first step- you're either a woman's woman or cultural medicine's woman.
I'm a woman's woman.
Birth belongs to women, not systems.

Yesterday was a very long day driving 3 hours to Lexington for a 9 hour Newborn Resesitation training and certification.
After passing my online portion we headed out starting with coffee and ending with pizza.
This class was fast paced and full of information from learning to use a laryngeal mask to placing an intraocceaus line in a newborn.
It was really wonderful to have so much support from so many of the local midwives who have done this for while and a few students who are rounding out phase 3.
I am looking forward to practicing more, watching more videos on these subjects and fine tuning my knowledge as I continue, but this was a really big step towards my goals.
I am now NRP certified! 🎉🎉🎉

77 hours and only 8 hours of sleep the last 3 days have been wild.
Two birthdays and even a hike with a mom in labor to help get things going.
I have been reflecting as I prayed the Lord to prune relationships and things in me that are unhealthy for my life or can't come into my next season with me and while it's been hard, I've gained depth with a lot of wonderful people pushing me closer to Jesus and also time.
The time thing is wild to me, but I'm thankful for it. I've been able to help more people because of it. I'm only one person though and I believe the Lord is protecting my time with who he wants me to support because I will support everyone around me if given the opportunity.
He will protect our space and our time. He will protect what is sacred. Your birth space is sacred, your pregnancy is sacred. The time we have to grow and be with our families is sacred. Not everyone is welcome, not everyone can be in these sacred spaces and when we all understand that, the better we will be able to guard our hearts.
Remember it's not about who didn't show up, it's about who does. ❤️

I do birth plans for $200 and they are extremely comprehensive with education and include a postpartum plan for your family. These sessions take up to 3 hours and we can divvy it up into two one and a half hour sessions. That way you're not going in I'm prepared and your partner is ready as well. This is an excellent alternative if you don't have a doula in the budget or don't want another person in your birthing space, but you want to make sure you know everything ahead of time so that you can advocate for yourself well and be prepared for any surprises along the way.
I offer virtual care as well for $250. You do not have to do this alone.

Imagine this:
You haven't showered in a week, your Doula gets to your house and you hand her the baby. She tells you to go take care of yourself and take a nice long shower.
While you're in the shower your baby is safe, their diaper has been changed, and your Doula has gotten your baby to sleep. After the baby's gone to sleep she has made you a plate with high dense nutrition and protein with your favorite sparkling water waiting for you at your chair. She asks you what else you need and you say the remote, I've really missed TV.
You get to relax while you're Doula does your dishes. Baby wakes up and your Doula checks on them, changes them if necessary, and brings them to you to feed. You need to only relax and take a deep breath because you're taken care of while you are taking care of your baby.
